Do you get overwhelmed by the tons of kitchen gadgets that you see in stores? Sometimes, when it comes to kitchenware products, you can get a little crazy, especially when you find unique tools such as a tiny wooden spoon, an avocado peeler, etc.  

Unfortunately, if you only have a minimal budget or space, you must narrow down your kitchen gadgets to the essential ones. If you want to minimise the clutter in your kitchen, then you should only have the essential kitchen tools.

1. Chef’s Knife

A high-quality knife is considered as the chef’s best friend. If you want a knife that can remain sharp for a long time, you should choose carbon-plated stainless steel. Also, be sure that you are comfortable using your knife. It should be easy to hold and control, feel more balanced in your hand, and not heavy or flimsy.

You will be using this many times; hence, you have to take good care of it.

2. Metal Spatula

A durable metal spatula is essential when tossing, flipping, and serving dishes. It is very helpful in cooking pancakes, eggs, baked salmon, stir-fried meats, and many more.

3. Whisk

There are various sizes and shapes for metal whisks. Be sure to choose a middle-sized whisk that is comfortable to use. It is very helpful when mixing dry ingredients or stirring eggs. You might also want to have a flat whisk.

4. Silicone Spatula

In scraping out the sides of the mixing bowl or the food processor, you need a silicone spatula. It is also very useful for folding egg whites when making cake batter or spreading frosting into the cake. Check if your spatula is made of silicone and not rubber, or else it might melt during high heat. It is recommended that you have a separate spatula for baking and another one for those garlicky things.

5. Kitchen Shears

Kitchen shears are the basic tool in the kitchen and the most useful as well. You can use shears to cut fat from meats, snip away herb stems, or open up packages. Sometimes, you can also use it for cutting the crust off the pie or cutting up a whole chicken. It would be great to choose a pair that you can dismantle for easy cleaning to avoid any dirt from building up in the hinge.

6. Slotted Spoon

You can either use a metal or a wooden slotted spoon. It acts as a filter for removing solids. For instance, when removing pasta or potatoes from boiling water.

7. Saucepans

A big saucepan is required when boiling corn or potatoes as well as in making pasta. It can also be useful for shimmering broths and soups. For smaller items such as oatmeal, rice, or boiled eggs, you can choose a smaller sauce with a size of 1.5 or 2.5 quarts. On the other hand, for larger items, you will need a 5 or 6-quarts size. 

8. Cast Iron Skillet

Cast iron pans have thick, heavy sides and bottoms. With high temperatures, they can evenly heat your food and retain its heat for a longer period. They can sear your scallops and steak nicely. You can even use them in the oven when cooking cobblers or cornbread. With their rustic looks, they can greatly complement your tabletop or stove. 

Most of all, they are indestructible. Your skillet will last a lifetime if you take good care of it.
